In the world of caregiving, the word "caregiver" is an all-encompassing term used to describe those who provide care to others. One of the many designations given to caregivers is the Personal Care Assistant (PCA) certification. This certification is commonly used in the field and can be obtained through a 6-day/6-hour online training program offered by Effective Home Care.
As the national certifying organization for caregivers, the American Caregiver Association establishes the titles and designations used for caregivers across the country. To obtain the PCA certification, interested individuals must meet certain requirements, including being at least 18 years old, having a high school diploma or GED, and passing a criminal background check and drug test.
The PCA Certificate Training program consists of 6 hours of daily training, including 4.5 hours of video/slideshow and 1 hour of testing. A reliable internet connection and access to a computer or tablet are required to participate. Applicants must also provide a Social Security Card, green card, work authorization, or passport, as well as undergo pre-employment physicals and lab work.
Effective Home Care provides an application for interested individuals to complete to begin the PCA certification process. Those who successfully complete the program will be well-equipped to provide quality care to those in need.
